I find that the plastic or metal needles work better with the cotton classic. The bamboo just wasn't slippery enough.

Addis are my fav for cotton. Not sticky. Good luck!

I'd vote for metal, but I admit, I do NOT like knitting with bamboo... at least not the Clover bamboo... Crystal Palace bamboo seems a little better.

I'd go with NOT bamboo for cotton. Metal, plastic, something slippy.

I prefer metal for cotton. It's hard enough to knit and the bamboo just seems to grab at it.

I have made facecloths with Tahki cotton and used birch needles with no problem of them sticking. So I think bamboo would work just fine.

Bamboo, definitely. Cotton tends to be a bit slippery and bamboo defeats that evil tendency. I also use bamboo for ribbon.

I generally use bamboo with cotton, but I despise metal needles so I may not be the most impartial of people. I have noticed a difference in how easy it is to knit with based on the finish of the bamboo. I prefer my rosewoods or addi naturas over the Clovers.

I would use Bamboo as cotton seems to be so slippery on my Addi's. But I have used both of them when knitting with Cotton Classic. I have a sweater from a Vogue issue on Addi's, until last night, when I stole them for the Celtic Dreams project.

I vote for metal, but bamboo would probably work fine if that's what you can find. Good luck!

I too have suffered trying to find 16" needles! My favorites for any yarn I have yet to encounter which is knit in the size 5-11 range are Susan Bates Quicksilver. Never have any trouble with the join, the metal is slick but not as noisy as some other metal needles, and they are at the cheaper end of things. Have fun, Kabira

I've never knit with the Tahki, but generally I find that metal needles are better for cotton. Less sticky, as I think you've already surmised.

I think I have a 16" size 7 Addi Turbo somewhere. Would have bought it at The Woolery. You might call Deb there and see if she's got them in. Remember she closes early on Wednesdays.

I prefer metal needles pretty much all the time. I have a pair of bamboo ones in one size, and I just find that they are not slippery enough for me. But then I am a Very Beginning Knitter and I have never once bought fancy yarn, so what do I know. :)

I have had the most success with shorter circular needles buying them online from joann.com. I looked in every craft store I saw for 11" circs (hee! I'm more accustomed to child-rearing Internet circles than knitting ones, and circ means something rather different on a baby board) but I finally had to break down and buy them online.

My preference for most knitting is addi's. I think I'd definitely use them for cotton; I've had splitting trouble with bamboo and cotton.

I would use the metal, however if 16" is hard to find maybe you can use DPN's.

Metal...I use metal for everything - except those "funky yarns" then I use bamboo. I've never had a problem with metal & cotton yarn.

Oh, good a picture of Dewey - he must be big by now...and knitting pic too...you can tell my heart is with Dewey... LOL

I think if the bamboo is smooth enough it shouldn't be a problem with the cotton. If they're really sticky, though, I'd stick with metal.

I've used both without a problem.

Oh, I love bamboo and cotton. I hate bamboo with sitckiness anyway.
