SRP Book 8: Rebecca

Summer Reading Program - My Books

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier (390 pages)
Genre: Gothic fiction
Rating: 4.8

I adored this book. I have rarely found a character with whom I identify so completely. So much of what the nameless main character describes thinking and feeling is just... me. The story is enthralling and very atmospheric. It did drag slightly in the middle, but overall, I loved it. I can tell this will be a frequent reread.

Oooh! I can't remember when I first read it, but when I finially peered beneath that front cover.. yes, I loved it. I get more out of it with each new reading. Mum had it sitting on the shelf for years and I thought at first it was one of her (please no offense to anyone) trashy romance novels but with an old cover.

I should reread it.. it's been many years.

Had you seen the movie before? I haven't read the book, only seen the movie (several times), and would like to hear a comparison.

Rebecca is a book I've been meaning to read. Glad to hear your review was good.

I'm actually reading this for the second time right now, and I love it. Did you know that DuMaurier actually wrote the original story for Hitchcock's "The Birds"? I didn't know that until I saw the movie the other night
