Knitting Olympics Links

Olympic Knitting 2006

I'm home sick today, so I figured I might as well round up all the links I can find that have buttons or other fun stuff for the Knitting Olympics, because God knows Steph has enough to do what with entering knitters and constructing a house with her bare hands and all. And, well, I'm a librarian. I want things to be nicely organized in lists. Alphabetical lists.

I am quite sure that I have missed some, and that more will be added, etc. So please let me know!

NOTE: sign-ups are indeed closed for individuals, but I will continue adding teams, buttons, media links, etc. for as long as you send them to me. So keep them coming!

NOTE #2: If you see a team you'd like to join listed with no link yet, e-mail me and I can put you in contact with the team members.

Me, I'd love to see a Team New Hampshire button.

Posted by: Folkcat at January 27, 2006 03:49 PM

Thanks for pulling all this together. I was going to do something simmilar. You know I've got to try and collect all those Olympic "pins". I'll let you know if I come across any more.

Posted by: Kat at January 27, 2006 03:51 PM

So you will be knitting on your olympics project on the plane on the way here, huh? :)

Posted by: aisling at January 28, 2006 12:35 AM

Thanks for adding the Dulaan's Olypians ;)

Posted by: Isela at January 30, 2006 12:56 PM

Team Canada - http://teamcanada2006.blogspot.com/ and also the Canadian Olympic Knitting Team - http://canadianolympicknitting.blogspot.com/. Great list!

Posted by: peggy at February 2, 2006 06:30 PM

There's a Team Chicago button ripe for the plucking on my blog - I made it at the request of some local knitters. I don't know of a Web site yet, though.

I've just finished setting up a blog for Team Canada at http://canadianolympicknitting.blogspot.com/. We're small so far but we're looking for new members. Anyone interested can e-mail me at "s m grant at rogers dot com" for an invite. And if any of the other teams want to be linked from our blog we have a "rivals" section for those.

Thanks

Posted by: Sarah Grant at February 3, 2006 02:08 PM

I edited that link to add the two subsequent journal entries with more buttons. I should probably be Team Too Busy Making Buttons To KNit, huh?

Posted by: beadslut at February 3, 2006 02:37 PM

We're small, and we don't have a button, but there's a gang in Cambridge UK getting together for an opening ceremonies party. http://knittingonthecam.blogspot.com/2006/02/my-100th-post.html

If anybody starts a Team California or northern CA, count me in.

Posted by: AlisonH at February 3, 2006 03:06 PM

Hi, could you please add Team DPN to the list.

You can qualify for this team by:

1) Doing a project for the Olympics that uses DPNs (AND / OR)

2) Poking people during the Olympics with your DPNs

Because I am a Peruvian citizen as well as an American citizen, I have a Team Peru button on my blog. Plus another, different Team USA button.

Thank you for doing this!

Does anyone have a cafe press store about this challenge? I'd love a sticker and a t-shirt to reward myself after this is all over. Let me know if you find something.

Someone needs to be captain of team "first socks," because I made a button before I decided to create (and thus be captain of) team "baby knits." no button for baby knits yet, but give me a day or three.

Team Luxemburg is one of the smaller groups in the classic opening procession, but we are bravely waving our adopted flag and our sharp needles. So far, there's just two of us... (anyone with some kind of luxemburgish connection is welcome to join our friendly little group!)

I have just set up the Team Nebraska site - Kat will get the link working as soon as she has a free moment, but in the meantime, feel free to visit, join and get a button. It is a group blog and I would love to see some members from our great state. (Besides, what else can you do in Nebraska in the winter? *g*)

The Knitting Olympics was mentioned on Swedish national television on Wednesday feb 8th! A girl in my knitting group, Tove, was interviewed on the current knitting trend in Sweden and the journalist asked her about the knitting olympics ("Stick-OS" in Swedish). You can see the clip on the internet, Tove has a direct link from her blog. It's in swedish and you have to fast forward about 5 minutes before it starts.
Check out the link at Tove's blog:

wanna put my team rogue (http://teamrogue.blogspot.com) on the list?

Two things.

1. Jessalu and I started Team Curling--for knitters with curly hair (or who like curly hair).

2. There was a editorial/blog from the San Mateo newspaper whose author jokes at the end about competing with knitting next time around. I sent her an e-mail telling her there already was such a thing, and she thanked me for letting her know. Funny, though!
